Free Electrons – Europe Module #2

For the second stop on the Free Electrons accelerator program we visited Lisbon and Dublin. Watch the full video of us here -  

On Day 1, the Free Electrons program team reviewed the schedule of the week. Startups delivered value proposition pitches and dove right into deal discussions with the utilities followed by a short trip to the ice cream stand.

On Day 2, Free Electrons startups met with 12 local VC's over breakfast. In the afternoon, Tomas Moreno, Head of Special Projects, EDP Innovation spoke about EDP's innovation strategy followed by a showcase from EDP Innovation startups.

On Day 3, deal discussions resumed. Both AusNet Services and Origin Energy committed to working with Driivz, an electric vehicle management platform, based in Tel Aviv and currently operating in both Europe and North America. In the afternoon, both startups and utilities set sail to the Costa da Caparica, one of Lisbon's most pristine beaches and training grounds for Lisbon's fiercest Tae Kwon Do master.

On Day 4, startups and utilities wrapped up their discussions at EDP headquarters. In the afternoon, startups toured Farfetch, a global online marketplace for luxury boutique brands and Second Home, a local creative incubator. Next stop, Dublin.

On Day 5, ESB hosted the Free Electrons Pitch Off event at the historic Trinity College in Dublin. After the pitch event, the Free Electrons startups, utilities and program managers celebrated at the Guinness Brewery with a tour, tasting and surprise performances from an Irish drumline and a flash mob of riverdancers. A big thanks to ESB for hosting the grand finale of Free Electrons Module #2. Next stop, Singapore.
